Areas of Practice

  • We routinely handle commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts. This includes extensive experience handling claims for breach of contract, alleged violations of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, shareholder disputes and general tort claims, such as breach of fiduciary duty.

  • We also counsel our clients on a variety of employment matters, including the defense of alleged discrimination claims before the Illinois Department of Human Rights and in Federal Court. Additionally, we handle non-disclosure agreements, work-for-hire, and related on-boarding documentation.

  • We handle transactional matters, such as mergers and acquisitions, commercial lease transactions, and employment agreements.

  • We also serve as outside general counsel to several small and mid-sized businesses, including an architecture firm and group of restaurants and nightclubs. This involves, inter alia, working on acquisitions, handling litigation matters, and addressing employment issues.

The firm was founded in 2023 by Robert J. Emanuel, a third-generation attorney who has been practicing law in Chicago since he was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1995. A veteran of large law firms, Bob is a business lawyer with deep experience representing financial institutions in class and individual consumer financial services matters. He also has extensive experience advising financial institutions and related entities on regulatory matters under the Truth in Lending Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, among others.

In addition to his financial services work, Bob has represented a host of small and medium businesses over the years in contract disputes, employment matters, commercial landlord-tenant matters, and other types of cases. These clients include several architectural firms, a national restaurant chain, consulting firms, an auto repair chain, a Chicago-based grocery store chain, and a wine retailer. Bob serves as outside general counsel for several of these businesses.

Bob has repeatedly been recognized as a “Leading Lawyer” in the area of Banking and Financial Institutions law. He is also very dedicated to the Chicago community and has served on the board of directors for the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association, Archeworks, an alternative design school, and Build, a Chicago based non-profit serving at-risk youth in Chicago’s hardest hit neighborhoods.
